Flexible and durable sheet moulding compound

COMPOTECH AG is an internationally renowned supplier of fibre-reinforced plastics such as sheet moulding compound (SMC). Various shapes, durable and inexpensive in comparison with conventional metals or wood, this versatile product is one of our primary areas of expertise. Whether you're looking for sheet moulding compound for a small or large scale project or whether you want an alternative to conventional materials, we're here to help.

Sheet moulding compound - the basics

Sheet moulding compound or sheet moulding composite is a ready to mould glass-fibre reinforced polyester material primarily used in compression moulding. Sheets tend to be provided in rolls in weights of up to 1,000 kg. Malleable and easy to handle, SMC is typically made by combining long fibreglass strands with minerals and a matrix. The matrix, or core material, is generally a plastic that has already been formed into flexible sheets or rolls. As well as supplying SMC as a base material, COMPOTECH AG offers a complete service that includes hot pressing, assembly and paintwork. A unique set of skills and over 50 years of industry experience ensure that we're adept at finding customised solutions. This is particularly useful when conventional materials don't meet certain standards, operational weight or fire-proofing, for example.

When should you choose SMC?

You should choose SMC when you want a cheaper, more reliable alternative to materials such as wood, aluminium or steel. COMPOTECH AG is a world-leader in the sheet moulding compound business and supplies companies across the globe. The brand is known for its ability to be flexible as well as for its high-quality range of innovative products. You may be surprised to discover how widely used this versatile compound is. We supply customers in fields such as electronics, transport, railway, aerospace, sanitation and medical manufacturing with SMC products that they can rely on for strength, longevity and functionality.

Why choose COMPOTECH AG for SMC services and products?

We are recognised experts in the SMC development and supply industry. From our plant in Switzerland, we create world-class systems and products of the highest standard. At the heart of our Swiss plant, you'll find two large presses. These powerful machines ensure maximum force and accuracy when handling thermosetting plastic. For example, our largest press has clamping forces of up to 2,000 tonnes and the ability to process SMC parts with dimensions up 2.5 x 3 metres. The production process is known as thermosetting plastics and is our main manufacturing option for fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP). Sheet moulding compound is also suitable for large production runs since pre-assembled material systems are supplied along with components. And, in the unlikely event that one of our machines fails or needs maintenance, we always have a back-up.
